My best day ever was February 7th, 2021, the day the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became Super Bowl Champions. I have been a fan of the Buccaneers since 2010. I was tired of feeling forced to cheer for New York sports teams due to my geographical location, I didn't like those teams, I didn't like their players, why did I feel I had to be a fan? By the time I was 10 years old I had enough and decided to search for a new favorite football team.
I would not be the person to pick the best team. I would not be the person to decide randomly, it had to have some rhyme or reason to my decision. Here is how I decided. I loved video games growing up. I played NCAA Football 2010 religiously as a child, and I always played with my favorite team, Boise State. Being a 10 year old kid, I was easy to impress, and they happened to have the only blue turf field in college football. The 10 year old me thought it was the coolest thing ever to have a blue football field. My favorite college football player was Boise State running back Doug Martin. I decided to become a fan of whichever team drafted him. That turned out to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and I swore loyalty to the franchise. My friends ridiculed me because they were a bad football team at the time. But I did not waiver.
I watched 10 long seasons of bad Tampa Bay football that resulted in a lot of losses. 101 losses to be exact. And only 59 wins. Not a single playoff appearance. It was a hard decade to continue to be a loyal fan. But I never wavered! And then, right before covid strikes the world, Tom Brady becomes a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. For the first time since becoming a fan, I had realistic hope. Bringing in the most accomplished quarterback of all time will do that. And being a gambler, I placed a future bet in October that the Buccaneers would be super bowl champions in February.
And finally, the day came. The Buccaneers fought through the playoffs and made it to the Super Bowl. They were up against the defending world champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. I have never been so nervous to watch a football game. Coincidentally, I have never wagered such an irresponsible amount of money on a game. I bet $1000 total on my team. They were not favored to win, but I had faith. I watched with my parents, my little brother, and my 3 closest friends, Mikey, Dillon, and CP. We ate great food, including wings of course, it is a football game after all, and drank good drinks. And best of all, we watched an amazing football game where the Buccaneers not only won the super bowl, but held the defending world champions, and number 1 ranked offense to 9 points and 0 touchdowns. When the game ended, I didn't know what to do with myself, I felt lighter, almost as if I was levitating. It was pure bliss, and a giant relief off of my shoulders.
This was my best day ever.
